Can you introduce yourself and tell us a little about your role in Líofa?
After graduating in engineering, PhD. in chemical engineering and 15 years in an international innovation group, I became CEO of Fluigent in 2015.
I am focused on building and implementing a successful and ambitious strategy based on disruptive innovation, high-end products, and customer satisfaction to meet research market demands and surpass the market.
Lichen helps develop advanced fluid control systems for microfluidics. Can you tell us more about Fluigent and some of your goals and missions?
It provides the industry with revolutionary microfluidics comparable to the invention of microprocessors in information processing. Its potential for research and industry is enormous, especially thanks to the miniaturization, automation, and high-speed capabilities that enable it to generate results, eg. Perform analyzes (NGS, DNA, pathogen detection). It also reduces the consumption of samples and reagents, reduces the duration of the experiments, and reduces the total cost of the experiments.
It is considered an essential tool for research in the life sciences, or biotechnology in general, for both academic researchers and industry groups. It allows for example:
• Develop new personalized treatments
• Accelerate the discovery of new drugs and vaccines by reducing time and costs
• Reproduction of living human organs on a microscopic scale
• Reduce animal experiments by testing new drugs on in vitro (organ-on-chip) models
• Low impact on the environment
Precise control of the liquids flowing through the chips is a critical success factor for these applications. Conventional syringes or peristaltic pumps have a hard time achieving the right level of performance. As a result, faster, more stable, and more accurate technology was needed to handle liquids on a microscopic scale.
Fluent was the first company to solve this problem by introducing an innovative technology; pressure pumps. A wide range of unique Fluigent solutions for use in microfluidics and nanofluidics applications provide complete flow control with greater control, automation, accuracy, ease of use, and freedom from contamination. Fluent has supplied thousands of patented pressure-based flow control systems to hundreds of customers around the world.
Fluigent’s Ready-to-Use Instrument Research Lab can be used for a variety of applications where fluid control is required. Industrial companies can also integrate Fluigent technology to improve and enhance their products.
Our goal is to improve everyday life and save people through tomorrow’s discoveries, accelerating their time to market and their impact on society.
